I was just listening to the School of Greatness Podcast with Lewis Howes and he was interviewing Tony Robbins.  What really spoke to me was Tony saying the key to success is giving.  Think about that and what it means for you. 

I recently found a new mantra that really speaks to me:

CHANGING THE WORLD, ONE STUDENT AT A TIME

It really inspires me.  

If I can help just one student, I can make a difference in this world. 

As part of this, I have taken the first steps in building out a course on exam anxiety that I have been working on to help students.  I spoke at a CFA prep course trying to give them tools to help them deal with exam anxiety and ultimately help them pass the exam. 

I’m told I will look back and be embarrassed about my first speech but you still need to get out there and you need to start somewhere.  Our biggest hurdles are the internal battles we fight with ourselves and I am having one right now. 

Was I any good? 

Did I add any value? 

Did anyone care? 

I didn’t get any feedback and am really doubting myself.  I have big plans to create a program around exam anxiety that can help students everywhere but here I am doubting myself and second guess myself about moving forward.  It’s not an easy internal struggle.

Club Update

We have had two more kids express interest in the Club, a 10 year old and a 13 year old.  We hope to bring them into the fold in the next few weeks.  That would make 4, we are actually turning into a real CLUB!!!  It’s nice to see people are hearing about us and what we are doing.  I think that means our kids are having fun and learning something. 

Our goal is 10 kids by the end of 2016 so we are well on our way.

We are learning from our customers and really feel like we are making leaps and bounds in terms of sending out what people will like. 

  • Offices like the smaller calorie,
  • runners like the high calorie and
  • bikers are midrange calorie wise but most just go with gels.
  • Hikers are midrange calorie wise and like bars

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Included in March is 3 orders given out as free as part of our contest. Congratulations to our winners Christine Moric and Vivian Bopp!   

Our contest only ran 7 days but we picked up 4 new email update subscribers.  From a standing start it is better than nothing, but if we run it again, we will need to do a better job promoting it.  March break probably had an impact.  Not the best timing, DOH!

We ran into a wall in March with everyone away for two weeks on school break.  Now we will get back to it and we want to set monthly goals for the kids in terms of how many bars we sell and profit they get.  With more students, we feel we need to add more structure to the Club.  We are working on getting a real place to host the meetings and then I guess we will be more of an official Club.  Scary!

We have plans to start building out social media marketing, we’ll keep you up to date on what works.  I will tell you this, I think it will surprise you!

We continue to struggle with getting our message across.  I have people tell me that it is great what we are doing and I’ve had people try our bars and love them.  One girl took our bars skiing with her for the day and said how great it was to have something convenient, tasty and filling with her for the lifts.  The protein helped fill her up and give her energy but that also meant she didn’t have to spend more money in the cafes to fill her up through the day.  She thought it was a great product.

I mentioned that we can deliver our product to her home for better value than most stores, but all I got in return was a blank stare and she was onto the next subject.

SCREECH!!!

So we were providing VALUE, SAVING her MONEY for a great PRICE

BUT there didn’t seem to be any interest in ordering.  I have been struggling with this puzzle for the last few days and couldn’t make sense of it.  The so- called experts preach, ADD VALUE, SAVE PEOPLE MONEY and you will make sales.

HMMM….

Oh oh, I just figured it out.  I have a lot to learn about sales, I was trying to go in for the sale without fully conveying the benefits of the product and establishing the value of the product. 

I had to do something about this and now:

  • I started reading a great book, STEAL THE SHOW by Michael Port on how to present better.
  • I signed up for an online webinar course around speaking in order to sell.

 

OMG I was suddenly aware of how bad I was at this.  I’ve been banging my head against a wall my whole life, getting frustrated at expressing myself and not understanding why people aren’t listening to me.  It all makes sense now, I’m not setting up the pitch properly and in doing so, causing myself a lot of frustration. 

I’m more than a little embarrassed and I realize that I need to learn how to do this better, for all areas of my life.
